Pickled Balut – Pinoy Food Recipe

This Pinoy food recipe is one of the most uncommon recipes I heard. I’m sure you’re familiar with Balot. If you are a rich kid then I’m sure you rarely eat this Pinoy food. I remember a white girl foreigner have tried eating balut in a TV program Pinoy big brother here in the Philippines, and she nearly vomit. Maybe because it is her first time to see and eat this kind of Pinoy food.
When a foreigner visits the Philippines for pleasure, it’s been a challenge for them to eat this Pinoy food. Some of them successfully ate this Pinoy food without vomiting.
This Pinoy food recipe is very different to the one that I’m saying. This one is pickled while the one that I’m talking about is just boiled. This one here is good as appetizer. Below is the Pinoy food recipe for Pickled Balut.

PICKLED BALUT INGREDIENTS
1 dozen balut (duck embryo), boiled and unpeeled
3 cups sugar
3 cups vinegar
3 tsps. rock salt
1 red bell pepper, julienned
1 carrot, julienned
1 thumb-size ginger, julienned

PICKLED BALUT PROCEDURES
1. To prepare the pickling solution: Boil together the vinegar, sugar and salt and pour into a sterilized jar.
2. Peeled the boiled balut and place inside the jar. Garnish with red bell pepper, carrots and ginger. Allow to ferment for 2 days.
3. Serve as an appetizer if desired.

That’s the end of the recipe. Picked Pinoy foods are usually good for appetizer or partnered with dried fried foods. This one is one of them. Try this out and see what happens to your appetite. Subscribe for more Pinoy food recipes! Try these Pinoy food recipes out:
