Mechado Or Beef Stew By Jade Circles

Beef Mechado is one of favorite Filipino dishes. It's also known as beef stew. Other variation is pork or chicken mechado but most common is with beef.


1 kilo of beef
2 onions, chopped
3 tomatoes, chopped
1 can of tomato sauce
1 bay leaf
4 potatoes, quartered
1 cup soy sauce
2 cups water
salt and pepper


Cut beef into chunks, ½ inch thick.
In a casserole, combine the beef, bay leaf, onions, tomatoes, soy sauce, and water.
Boil until beef is tender.
Add the potatoes.
Simmer until potatoes are cooked.
Add salt and pepper to taste.

Tips for faster cooking time:

Pressure cook the beef with the ingredients mentioned in step 2.
Fry the potatoes before adding to the casserole.
